You can gain a Free Registration at FICS - one of the chess server sites - from the 'connect' dialogue box , which is displayed when you click 'connect'.

You will then connect to: http://www.freechess.org, Port 5000
with your Username & password.

E-mail-based correspondence Chess:

...then register for Tournaments, Matches at:
